The Favourite 5: Mascaras

I’m a picky lass when it comes to mascaras - so you should know that only the best of the best made it to the list. I’m not blessed with those naturally fluttery lashes (you girls know who you are) so I really have to rely on mascara to lift my eyelash game. So here are my favourite five mascaras ever in no particular order.

1. Maybelline: Lash Sensational ($21.95)

Kay, so the brush does look a little clumpy in this photo *face palms self* but I swear it isn't a clumpy mascara. I find that this mascara is best for curling and thickening the lashes. The wand looks a little big in the photo but it's still small enough to get those pesky inner lashes. This mascara is so bloomin' easy to apply and in a few strokes you're ready to hit the town.

2. Benefit: Rollerlash ($40)

Now this was a very hyped up mascara. At first I was cynical on how 'great' it was because there was almost too much buzz with it. As I read the reviews I felt like that jock from napoleon dynamite who constantly scoffs, this guy). Buuut...I ended up caving. The first week of using this mascara I wasn't a fan - the formula was too wet and it didn't work for me. I put it down for a few weeks and when I picked it up again..I was in love *heart eyed emoji*. Once the formula dries it does as promised: lengthens and curls. I got this in April and it's only started to dry up now which i'm super impressed with. Will most likely repurchase this one.

3. YSL: Babydoll ($55)

I don't understand the science behind how this wand manages to do a fabulous job. I mean it looks pretty darn basic with its straight and short bristles. But for some reason I really like this mascara. It's just that perfect everyday mascara which makes your lashes look all natural and fluttery. It does dry up a little quickly..but..I kinda think its worth it.

4. Avéne: Couvrance (around $25)

I feel a little cruel adding this into my favourites. Why? CAUSE YOU CAN'T FIND THIS ANYWHERE. When my mum and I went to France at the beginning of the year she bought this mascara as she was running out of hers. It wasn't until we got home from our travels that we both tried it and realized that it was one of the best mascaras we had ever used. We tried to search for it in-store and online but we couldn't find anywhere that sold it. My brothers went to France last month for a cycling trip so they bought about 5 to bring back. Basically this is incredible. It curls, lengthens and adds volume. Never gets clumpy. Doesn't dry up fast. Easy to take off at night. It's just the ideal mascara. Sooo if you go to France or find it online let me know if you love it as much as I do.

5. Maybelline: The Falsies Flared ($19.95)

Discovered this in 2013 and I still adore it. There's just something about this mascara. It lengthens, curls and adds volume. This is a mascara I've repurchased time and time again (i'd say about 5 or 6 times). It just ticks all the boxes for me and i'll forever be buying this.

So there you have it! If you're in need of a new mascara..take your pick. I'd recommend em all.

Monthly Mixtape

I’ve decided that I’m going to do a monthly round up of all the music I have been loving in the month. Personally I love the feeling of finding new music. Nothing is better than listening to a song for the first time and realizing “damn I’m going to break the replay button on this one”.

One of my little quirks is that a make a mix CD for my car each month. A few people think it’s lame but I love just popping in a CD, I find it so much easier than messing about with my ipod. Sometimes I’ll even make my friends mix CD’s based on the music I think they’d like listening to. My friends love it and I have such a fun time making them too. My September mix has been one of my most favourite mixes I’ve made so i’m gonna share what my favourite songs have been.

Losers by The Weeknd feat. Labrinth has been one I’ve replayed so many times. It’s got a funky upbeat tune that makes you want to dance. Well done The Weeknd, you’ve done well. Another upbeat song that I’ve loved has been what do you mean by Justin Bieber. YOU GO BIEBS. I bet majority of you have heard this song but for those who haven’t: go listen to it asap. So damn groovy. While I’m on the genre of ‘funky tunes’ (I don’t know if the word ‘funky’ is lame or not ha) I must mention Taro by Alt-J. The other day I went for a roadtrip with some friends and this was repeated a few times due to how great it is. Whenever I listen to it I think of one of those snakes dancing to it cause it’s got an Indian feel to it. Daffodils by Mark Ronson feat. Kevin Parker should have been released as a single because it’s such a great song that reminds me of the 60’s with its psychedelic beat.

I’ve been getting into Adele once again! Listening to her brings me back to 2011 where I would listen to both her albums on repeat for weeks. Did anyone else do that too?! The one song I’ve been going back to has been “my same” which is on her first album 19. It’s a lil jazzy, I like it. I’ve also rediscovered my love for The 1975 which was a band I was obsessed with late 2013. “Chocolate” and “Settle down” are the ones that grab me the most but they’re all addictive.

It excites me that Lana Del Rey’s new album is finally out, “high by the beach” has been the standout song for me as it’s chilled yet catchy. Another chilled song I’ve been loving is “Here” by Alessia Cara..damn that girl has some great vocals. This song is about her being at a party and would rather not be there (which speaks to my soul cause I’ve been that girl many times).

I’m going to wrap it up here because I could go on and on about the music I’ve been loving this month but I’ve mentioned the main tracks that have grabbed me. Please let me know what music you’ve been loving J

Little life update /

Lately I haven't been able to get around to the hobby that I love most: blogging. Life can really get in the way, can't it? All I can do is roll with it and hope for free time soon. The last two months have been B-U-S-Y. I'm the kinda gal who cherishes my free time so it'd a shock to the system to suddenly have many things to do.

Firstly, I signed up to a gym! Never thought i'd be a gym person. Ever. I originally did a month trial and after it finished I realized how much I liked the gym. So i've signed away my soul for the next year and am forcing myself to go to the gym at least 3 times a week. The reason I like it so much is cause it's an all girls gym! Hooray! I can turn up in sluggish clothes and not an ounce of make-up and I don't even care cause it's just us girls.

Secondly - I got a job! After a few months of being jobless/focusing on university I decided I probably should get a job relating to the field I want to work in. I'm enjoying it so far and have loved having extra $$$ to spend. I'm a good lil saver though - so perhaps more travel is on the cards??

University has been alright this semester but I can't wait to finish. Two days a week I go on placement (kinda like work experience) and although it's interesting all I can think is I COULD BE DOING MY ASSIGNMENTS RIGHT NOW. I'm currently in denial about my assignments. So much so that i'm sat here typing up a new blog post when I really should be starting my 2000 word assignment that's due in a week. Carpe diem?

I'm currently listening to Foals new album which is excellent, will definitely be popping this bad boy into my car. I love technology and all it's advances but I will never stop loving CD's and making myself mix CD's to listen to in the car. So much less fiddly than an iPod.

I really have no clue where i'm going with this post but felt in the mood to do a little life update. The next few weeks are going to be awful but i'm just gonna listen to old Taylor Swift albums and make lots of tea to get by. Hope everyone is having a lovely week so far.
