Contouring like a boss: An Australis AC ON TOUR KIT Review + Swatches

17:51:00

I think all of us are guilty of watching copious amounts of contouring tutorials. I’m forever trying to perfect the skill that Kim K makes look so easy. Contouring definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted. It takes a lot of time and practice to achieve but once you get into it you never go back.

Recently I purchased the Australis ‘AC ON TOUR contouring & highlighting kit’ from Priceline which was on sale for $11 (helloooo bargain). Usually it’s $16.95 which is still pretty cheap. I can’t put my finger on what this product is a dupe for…*cough* Anastasia Beverly Hills *cough*. The ABH one is around $80 which means the Australis one is over $60 cheaper.

Packaging: The packaging is basic but fine, it doesn't feel flimsy so I doubt it'll break anytime soon. On the back it has a little guide on how to contour/highlight which is great for those who may be new to contouring.

Texture: Each of the six shades are very pigmented and smooth. Don't worry - it doesn't come out chalky! No one likes a chalky contour. I must reiterate that the shades are so pigmented that you have to have a light hand when applying otherwise it can come out too harsh and may be difficult to blend.

Finish: The finish depends on how much you apply. You can either create a subtle contour which looks natural or you can go all out and contour the heck out of your face. Either way the finish still looks amazing for a $16.95 product.
Highlighting shades: The shades I use the most are 2 and 3. Shade 2 I use to brighten under my eyes and shade 3 I use to brighten the central parts of my face. I do use shade 1 to do my nose as it's a tad lighter.

Contouring shades: The one I use the most is shade 5. As you can see in the photos above it is the most grey toned colour which can create the appearance of cheekbones (grey tones are the colour of defined cheekbones). Shade 4 I use to do my forehead, jawline and the outer areas of my face. I haven't gotten much use out of shade 6 yet but I may use it to contour my nose.

The verdict: This contour kit is such a great steal for only $16.95. The shades are completely wearable and have a smooth finish. I'd recommend this for all people who want to give contouring a go as it's easy to use and the product is of high quality.

What products do you use for contouring/highlighting? Any ones I should give a go?
