Review: Roller Lash by Benefit

03:40:00

Getting things in the mail is one of the best feelings ever, and waiting for the arrival of my Roller Lash was no exception. I got home from an average day at university to see my package had arrived and I instantly leapt for the box. I’m pretty sure every blogger under the sun has heard about the Roller Lash as it’s been making the rounds featuring on every second blog. I’m usually not one to splurge on an item that’s ‘all the rage’ as I’ve been left disappointed in the past - not going to name names…*cough* They’re Real mascara. But I obviously caved to the craze and jumped on the bandwagon.

Benefit’s Roller Lash is inspired by hair rollers as hair rollers have tiny bristles that hook short hairs to maximise the curling results. It has a patent-pending ‘hook n roll’ brush that is designed to lift and curl lashes. I’m just going to add in how much I like the packaging, I like how retro it looks and how it incorporates the inspiration that was behind the mascara. As far as lifting and curling lashes I’d give this mascara a B. They certainly did curl and I felt they lifted more than they would with any other mascara. The formula of Roller Lash is lighter than They’re Real so it doesn’t weigh the lashes down and reduce the curl. I've got to be honest though..my lashes are pretty crap. They're medium-long in length and very straight so majority of mascaras fail to curl them, but rollerlash did curl them slightly more than the others.  It’s supposed to remain lifted and curled for 12 hours and I’d say that’s pretty accurate! Of course half way through the day I noticed they were a teeny tiny bit duller but they still remained very curled.

As you can see in the above before/after photos (which aren't my finest work) it shows my very straight lashes getting slightly lifted with just one coat. I wish the shot of my lashes with two coats was in focus as it showed the curl much more! But I think you can get a general idea in this photo yes?

The removal of the Roller Lash is almost dream like. Majority of my mascaras are very thick resulting in myself getting panda eyes upon removal, but this mascara was a dream to get off. Seeing as it has it’s lightweight formula it makes it very easy to remove. The ‘They’re Real’ is absolutely shocking to remove in comparison.

I’m going to get straight to the point: I really like it but it’s probably not a holy grail product.

Should you buy it? Yes and no. If you’re willing to splurge on a more expensive mascara (it’s about $38) then go for it. If you generally don’t like splurging I’d suggest The Maybelline Falsies for a great curling mascara.

Would I buy it again? Not 100% sure yet. Possibly not.

Overall grade: B. I like this product enough to not regret splurging on it, but I don't love it enough to replace it as my holy grail mascara. It does successfully lift and curl but I still prefer my YSL Babydoll mascara. I've used Roller Lash in combination with They're Real and I must admit it was a great combo, so if you have both then try it.

If you've used this mascara tell me your thoughts??

  3. I'd rather just curl my lashes with my shu uemura curlers, invest in that then a pricey mascara. Great review!

    1. I've got that shu uemura curler and it does such a fantastic curl. The great thing about a quality curler is that it always outlasts a mascara!
